Tour Operators Reignited by Vaccinated Seniors Restless to Travel - Skift

Image
During the last several months, countless tour operators have resumed tours, conducting business much differently than prior to the pandemic with fewer guests, social distancing, and health screening requirements. While those businesses were among those hardest hit by the pandemic, widespread vaccinations are assisting them in welcoming back an important market: older travelers itching to travel again. A UK study tells that story—77 percent of older respondents to a recent 2021 survey by Silver Travel Advisor, a website devoted to travel by those over 50, said they plan to book travel within six months of being vaccinated. Furthermore, 86 percent said they would spend as much or more on travel in the next year while adding they missed overseas travel even more than hugging their grandchildren. Those older travelers are incredibly valuable in the travel industry. In the United Kingdom alone, people older than 50 represent just below 60 percent of the country's travel and tou

How Retired Singles Can Safely Travel While Saving Money - Kiplinger's Personal Finance

Travel is one of the great luxuries of retirement, and the pandemic has been "a real wakeup call" for single tourists, says Janice Waugh, founder of Solo Traveler. The website, which is aimed at single travelers, found that those over 65 are especially eager to make travel a priority once the pandemic is over. But post-pandemic, single travelers are looking to take charge. "In previous years, if a friend wanted to go someplace they might just go along, but now they're saying, 'I'm going to go where I want to go, even if it means traveling solo,'" Waugh says.  What will become increasingly popular, she predicts, are so-called hub-and-spoke tours, where the tour group stays in one hotel for the duration and individuals take day trips to nearby places. From a health safety standpoint, people will feel more comfortable after the pandemic sleeping in one place rather than hopping from one hotel or inn to another, Waugh says. These kinds of tours ar

The World's Most Intriguing Destinations For Solo Travelers - Forbes

Regardless of age, gender or nationality many people enjoy traveling alone. The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club Travel has long been considered a group activity. However, travel trends are changing. In recent years, more people have embraced solo travel in order to satisfy their desire for alone time. Solo travel often involves individuals searching for an enlightened approach to their everyday existence, and the focus can be on relaxation, wellness, adventure, stress management or even romance. Solo travelers report that traveling alone can enhance one's sense of self-awareness and inner tranquility. To investigate this growing phenomenon, Klook , a travel activities and services booking platform, commissioned a solo travel study conducted by YouGov which found that the vast majority of travelers are interested in hitting the road alone, regardless of age, gender or nationality. The study found that 76% of them have either traveled alone or are considering it. When com

In the 2020 Solo Traveler survey, presented with the support of O.A.T, nearly 3,000 respondents shared their views regarding solo travel and COVID-19. Image
By Express News Service HYDERABAD: BJP Telangana in-charge Tarun Chugh, on Tuesday, released a 'charge-sheet', a document comprising the 'unfulfilled' promises made by the TRS and Congress governments, in the backdrop of the Nagarjuna Sagar byelection. The party also published a photograph of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Congress' Nagarjuna Sagar contestant K Jana Reddy embracing each other, implying that both the parties were secret allies.  Chugh said that the document was a model of the Chief Minister's "thanasha-styled rule'. He asked whether Jana Reddy had developed the constituency during his stint as the MLA, which lasted for 35 years. "Chief Minister and Reddy Saheb, you had promised a degree college, but instead, you snatched the existing degree college. This document is only a trailer; a full-fledged movie can be made out of the sins of the Congress and TRS parties over the years," Chugh said. Stating that many farm

Travel to India during Covid-19: What you need to know before you go - KION

If you're planning to travel to India, here's what you'll need to know and expect if you want to visit during the coronavirus pandemic. The basics India is currently the global center of a devastating new wave of the pandemic, with the country's health system close to collapse. The country swiftly closed its borders at the start of the pandemic, banning all scheduled international flights in March 2020. Current flight bans Due to the second wave of infections, many places are massively reducing, indefinitely suspending or banning travel to and from India. Rick Steves' Europe: Poland's historic, captivating Krakow | HeraldNet.com - The Daily Herald

As we've had to postpone our travels because of the pandemic, I believe a weekly dose of travel dreaming can be good medicine. Here's one of my favorite European memories from Poland — a reminder of the fun that awaits us at the other end of this crisis. My first impression of Krakow is that it feels like it must have been really important a long time ago. In fact, it was Poland's capital from the 11th through the 16th century. Within its medieval walls, I wander the Old Town, which converges on the main market square, lined with cafes and gorgeous architecture. Vast as it is, the square has a folksy intimacy. It bustles with street musicians, cotton-candy vendors and the lusty coos of pigeons. A folk band, swaggering in colorful peasant costumes, gives me a private concert. Feeling flush — not unusual with the low prices in Poland — I tip them royally. Perhaps too royally. That big tip gets me "The Star-Spangled Banner." Moments after the band moves o

How 'Rick Steves' Europe' helped me grieve - The Michigan Daily

Image
Ah, summer vacation. The sacred three-month period of underpaid jobs, midday naps and in all honesty, too much TV. Although some may find this assessment pessimistic, it's an accurate summary of my past two summers (minus being able to secure a job — sorry Mom).  Last summer, constrained from most productive activities by the pandemic and low personal funds, I opted to embrace the latter pursuit of TV-watching. My program of choice, you may ask? The one and only "Rick Steves' Europe."  This wasn't my first time watching the PBS travel show. In fact, its jovial theme song has been ingrained in my head for what seemed like eons. Over the last few years, my grandmother came over to my house almost daily so my mom could care for her. She suffered a decade-long battle with Alzheimer's and it was practically impossible to pass the time with things she still enjoyed. Bingo and puzzles, the usual fare for elderly pastimes, were a no-go. Although my grandmother use

European travel guide Rick Steves, stuck at home - CBS News

Every summer for four decades, Rick Steves would head off on an annual tour through Europe. His journeys have been well-documented in several PBS shows and specials, and replicated in a successful line of guidebooks. But over the course of this past year, a big trip for Steves has looked more like this: a simple stroll through his hometown of Edmonds, Washington. Rick Steves strolls the streets of Edmonds, Wash., 5,650 miles from Rome.  CBS News Ever since COVID cancelled his travel plans, he's mostly been staying inside, practicing piano, and exploring the foreign land that is … his kitchen. "I never knew how to make pasta!" Steve told correspondent Conor Knighton. "I never felt the joy of a knife cutting through a nice, crispy onion." "By that, you mean you've never cut an onion before?" "I have never cut an onion before!" Steves asserted. "Come on..." "Really. Never." Knighton asked, "Are th

BJP promises job opportunities - The Hindu

Electing BJP candidate Ravi Kumar Naik in the Nagarjunasagar bypoll will help transform the constituency; on the other hand, Congress is a party of yesterday and electing Telangana Rashtra Samithi candidate would also not yield anything, Minister of State (Home) G. Kishan Reddy said on Saturday. If Naik was elected, every mandal would get one skill development centre to generate livelihood opportunities, and eligible women would be provided loans under Mudra Yojana to make them entrepreneurs, he said. Not only women of the constituency, but Dalits and tribals, students, the unemployed, farmers and local businesses would also get special treatment, as per the Bharatiya Janata Party's manifesto released by Mr. Kishan Reddy. Addressing party cadre and locals at a private function hall in Haliya, the Minister said BJP's victory in Nagarjunasagar was needed to effect a change in the State politics, much like what Dubbak victory and the large vote share the BJP had garnered in

More people are being vaccinated everyday and travel is already top of mind. Suddenly, the whole world feels in reach again, even if travel restrictions haven't quite been lifted yet. Most travel experts expect travel to re-open incrementally rather than all at once. We'll see some countries loosening restrictions early on and others late to follow. At your destination, attractions and local protocols will change in phases, too. Remember, even if you're vaccinated, not everyone else will be when you arrive at your destination. Some travelers already know exactly where they want to go: canceled trips from earlier that have been rebooked or bucket list trips that seem more urgent after witnessing a global health crisis. For others, it might be more nebulous. Cabin fever might be constant but the details a bit f
