France's route to 2022 World Cup final: Who will Les Bleus face in Round of 16 and beyond? - Sporting News

Image
France came through the 2022 World Cup group stages unscathed to finish top of Group D, and book a Round of 16 showdown against Poland. Les Bleus' build up to Qatar 2022 was dominated by a host of injury withdrawals, with 2018 heroes N'Golo Kante and Paul Pogba both sidelined, alongside 2022 Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema on the eve of the tournament. However, Didier Deschamps' charges have shown the resilience needed from defending champions so far, with Kylian Mbappe staking his claim for the Golden Boot. Major tests lie ahead for France if they want to retain their title from Russia 2018 — and the 1-0 defeat to Tunisia on matchday three will be a concern, albeit they rested a host of regular first-team stars — but they still look to have the confidence of champions ahead of the knockout stages. Bring the kids where? 7 vacation destinations that are surprisingly family-friendly - The Points Guy

My husband and I used to joke that once we had kids we were only allowed to vacation at Great Wolf Lodge. We actually have visited Great Wolf Lodge with our kids and had a great time, but our deeper concern involved being beholden to vacation destinations that are deemed "kid-friendly." The major players that come to mind are theme parks, beaches, cruises, national parks and, yes, water park hotels, but there are destinations all over the world that are more family-friendly than they may seem. A few years ago, Ruth Sadur and her boyfriend were supposed to travel together to Bali, Indonesia. When he had to cancel at the last minute, Sadur wanted help navigating the trip. Her hotel connected her with De Yudha Herdyana, a local guide, who thought her itinerary was too generic. Instead, he ferried her to tourist-free rice paddies, uncrowded beaches, and restaurants with menus in Balinese that he translated. "It was one of my best travel days," says the Melbourne, Australia, childcare worker. "He felt like my friend by the end of it." Religious tourism and our divide - ORANGE COUNTY TRIBUNE

SPECIAL EFFECTS are part of the appeal of shows in Branson. By Bob Smietana /Religion News Service BRANSON, Mo. (RNS) – A night at the Dolly Parton Stampede is a microcosm of life in these polarized United States. For nearly two hours, on a hot August night, a capacity crowd divided by North and South, Red and Blue, tried to outshout the other side, egged on by leaders who referred to the other side by creative, G-rated terms of derision. The tension ramped up as two teams of riders dressed as cowboys and pioneers of the Old West competed to show which side could ride fastest, dodging obstacles and the occasional ring of fire – then breaking into songs or corn-pone jokes, while the audience cheered and devoured Cornish hens, biscuits and corn on the cob by the truckload. ___ This content is written and produced by Religion News Service and distributed by The Associated Press.
