Rick Steves: England”s cute and cozy Cotswolds - Boston Herald

Image
England's Cotswolds villages — while just a couple of hours' drive away from London — feel like a world apart. This tidy little region of characteristic old towns and gentle green hills is perfect for travelers looking to balance urban Britain with some thatched cuteness. Today visitors enjoy a harmonious blend of man and nature: th...

Some of the ones I highly recommend might make people say "Huh?" but they're the sights that might just make your day. For example, Glasgow's Tenement House offers a chance to drop into a well-preserved, 1930s-era, middle-class residence. (She was also a late adopter, making the leap to electricity only in 1960.) The kitchen calendar is still set for 1935, canisters of licorice powder (a laxative) still sit on the bathroom shelf and her piano, once the room's entertainment centre, hasn'...
