Holidaymakers who lost out when Thomas Cook went bust urged to sign up for refund - iNews
Holidaymakers who lost money as a result of the collapse of Thomas Cook are being urged to sign up for their refund.
The Thomas Cook Group collapsed in 2019 leaving an estimated 150,000 travellers stranded.
The company has since relaunched with an online only presence but the Government has only recently set up a Thomas Cook claims site where anyone who may be owed money can submit a claim.
Last November, David Chapman, the company's Official Receiver, urged the 'thousands' of customers and creditors to submit their compensation claims.
Customers who booked with Thomas Cook Airlines, Group Treasury, Group Tour Operations, Money, MyTravel as well as Thomas Cook UK Limited are all being urged to make sure they file a claim.
The Government's portal lists the different types of claims needed to qualify.
Compensation can include a refund for a flight operated by Thomas Cook where the flight was either cancelled, the customer denied boarding, a missed connection or was downgraded.
In November 2021, the Official Receiver launched the Thomas Cook Claims Site, an online portal to enable customers and other creditors in the liquidation who may be owed money by any of the Thomas Cook UK companies that went into liquidation to submit claims.
Mr Chapman said: "While we have received many claims already, we believe there are potentially thousands more customers and creditors who are owed money by Thomas Cook but have not submitted their claims.
"That is why we are urging customers and suppliers to use the online portal to quickly, easily and securely lodge their claims for monies owed to them."
Claims in the Liquidation could occur for a variety of reasons, including:
- gift vouchers bought or provided by Thomas Cook with unredeemed balances
- disrupted flights (including EU261 claims)
- packaged holidays and other holiday elements impacted by cancellation
- personal injuries
- sports tickets bought from Thomas Cook
- goods or services provided to Thomas Cook
Creditors should be aware they are not necessarily going to receive the entirety of their claim, but once registered they will be able to log onto to the site to check the progress and status of their claim.
Further information about how to submit a claim and the anticipated payment levels is available on the Thomas Cook Claims Site.
