Marilyn M. Sipes Obituary - News Journal - Mansfield News Journal

Marilyn M. Sipes, 93, of rural Galion in Morrow County went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 29, 2024 at Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living in Galion, Ohio. She was born November 5, 1930 to the late Henry Ward and Viola M. (Marshall) Rinehart in North Bloomfield Twp., Morrow County where she lived her whole life until her move in October of 2023 to Magnolia Terrace.

She graduated from Lexington High School in 1948 and married her high school sweetheart, Ivan W. Sipes, on June 12, 1949 at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Morrow County. They exemplified a Godly marriage for over 63 years until Ivan's death on September 22, 2012. Together they lovingly raised their family of two daughters, two sons, seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling, especially to visit their family in distant places. They also supported their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren by attending many dance and sporting events, choir and band concerts.

Marilyn was a faithful member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church, as well as the United Methodist Women, the Friendship Parish of Methodist Churches, the Friendship Parish choir, the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Seniors on Center of Morrow County, and Snuggled in Hope Quilts to benefit campers with special needs at the Flying Horse Ranch east of Mount Gilead. She was a member of the West Pasco Quilters' Guild in Florida, and the Happy Wanderers Travel Company, enjoying many bus trips around Ohio and even in Pennsylvania. In years past, Marilyn was a member of the Handicraft Club, the Red Hat Society, a member of several TWIGs where she volunteered many hours at the Morrow County Hospital, and a member of the board of the Morrow County Society for Crippled Children. Ivan and Marilyn were recognized as Outstanding Senior Citizens of Morrow County in 2006. For many years they both enjoyed playing dominoes each week with a group of friends and Marilyn continued after Ivan's death.

Marilyn is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl (Mark) Fischer of Montgomery, Texas and their children, Amy Peña and Matthew Fischer of Montgomery, Texas; Mildred (Jerry) Petersen of New Port Richey, Florida and their daughter-in-law Kristin Petersen of Lutz, Florida; one son and daughter-in-law, John R. (Linda) Sipes of Galion and their children, Devon (Ruben) Ruiz of Galion, Nathan (Candace) McRill of Galion, and Amanda Collins of Arlington; ten great-grandchildren survive her as well as her brother, Danny (Linda) Rinehart of Ontario, Ohio; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded by a son, Leslie G. Sipes who died in 2003, a granddaughter, Rachel L. Petersen, who died in 1981; a grandson, Jesse W. Petersen, who died in 2017; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald (Lois) Rinehart, Duane Rinehart, and Alvin (Margaret) Rinehart; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Clarence (Ruth) Sipes, and Clarence's first wife Juanita; Ethel (Vincent) Palevich, Mabel (James) Miller and Mabel's first husband, William Baldwin; Donald (Barbara) Sipes, and Evelyn (James) Wiseman.

Marilyn's family extend their thanks to the staff of Magnolia Terrace Assisted Living and Ohio's Hospice of Morrow County for their patient, loving care during the last months of her life.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, February 2, 2024 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 3 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 8652 State Route 19, South of Galion with Rev. Donald Christensen officiating. Burial will follow at Ebenezer United Methodist Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church or to Ohio's Hospice of Morrow County, in care of the funeral home.
